When do you perform air testing? When you can't see mold growing anywhere, but you suspect it may be there because of a musty smell or earthy odor, or even sickness. Even when visible mold is present, you may want to collect air samples to determine if your family was exposed to elevated amounts of airborne spores and what types.
When do you perform surface testing? When you can see visible mold growth and you want to know whether it's toxic or not. In most cases people also collect air samples where there is visible mold growth because it's not the mold on the wall that affects our health but the airborne spores.
Simply put, order one for each room that you wish to test plus one for the outside control sample. For greater accuracy, if you have an area of concern (complaint area), it is recommended that you test in both that area as well as a non-compliant area including the outside. The outside sample helps us to know which mold spores are likely to be coming from outdoor (when we open windows and doors) and which ones originated from indoor mold growth.
If you need to test air in every room of your house (recommended) you select a package with enough cassettes to cover all the rooms (see the dropdown menu below).
